Themes & Goals

Ratterfly once had many many many many lines going at once; and to be honest, it just got to be too hectic and far too demanding on me. Once the fire's hit and I unfortunately had to rehome the majority of my adults and breeding line, I decided I'd start back as basics, pick ONE line, and expand from there. These are the lines I'm currently working on; from the ground up. I am honest on my goals and I'm ever forthright on the history of them. Dwarf Line

Eventually, I will be able to break this line into pieces regarding color, eartype; etc. - at the moment, I have a generalized dwarf line. I started with one black doe, a himalayan doe, a himalayan buck and a siamese buck - so my color types are currently limited! I was blessed to add another black doe and a burmese hooded doe to my lines shortly after (who are currently being bred out to produce carriers), and in July 09, I added a lovely fawn dumbo buck.
Goals for this line include bringing in blue, burmese, dilutes and marked; rounding out dumbo earsets, shorten noses, thicken tails and shorten/cob out bodies.

Theme: Medical Terms, Angus Oblong Characters

Downunder

Downunder was never high on my list; however I'm letting them come to me; regarding what pops up in my litters. This line will be built from the ground up using my stock only as well as the occasional studding from another rattery. This line will be hooded DU, based on one spontaneous buck I had show up in a litter very randomly.
Goals for this line include thickening tails, adding dumbo and color, and perfect the hoods without compromising the belly swatch. Eventually our DU will all be dwarf.

Roan/Husky

I was blessed to recieve my starter/foundation roans from Connie Perez of Rat Genesis. This line is guarded with my life. I will only sell roans to breeders who have established a trusted relationship with me and have a solid outlook on their breeding program through specialized husbandry lines, as well as displaying an effort of breeding to improve the variety.
Goals for this line include adding color (specifically; mink, chocolate, black, Russian blue), shortening noses, thickening tails and establishing dumbo earsets. Self markings will be maintained - I will not be adding any marked to this line. Eventually I will have dwarf roan!

Tortoiseshell

I am very excited to have an opportunity in Torties. I have crash-coursed in their genetics and am learning as I go. I will only sell torties to breeders who have established a trusted relationship with me and have a solid outlook on their breeding program through specialized husbandry lines, as well as displaying an effort of breeding to improve the variety.

Harley Coated

I hadn't planned on doing anything with Harley coated, however I was lucky enough to be around the right people at the right time. When ARS bought two RFCR-bred Harleys, I volunteered to babysit until they went home. ARS is allowing me to breed a litter and retain some of the babies! This is why I love my breeder friends.
Goals for this line are to establish harley in my own colony and eventually incorporate harley with dwarf.

Manx

I hadn't planned on breeding for manx, but it popped up in my bloodlines, and I'm very excited.

Theme: Charlaine Harris

Recessive Blazed

Again, right place at the right time! I was lucky enough to bring home my first three charming individuals and decided to run with it. I will focus on on recessive blaze primarily in shades of blue (I'm a sucker for them), which means my line won't need to branch out too much other than the occasional out-crossing. My first few litters will be primarily retained for furthering my lines and establishing that they are, in fact, megacolon free and 100% recessive (you can never be too careful). Some of this line will be going back to ARS in November.
Goals for this line include shortening faces, incorporating dumbo, and adding Russian Blue. Eventually, one this line is deemed safe, I will be incorporating it with dwarf as well.
